Wrestling with Moses: Author Lecture and Book - Signing by Anthony Flint, Friday, November 6, 7:30 pm at the Greenbelt Nature Center

Join us at the Greenbelt Nature Center for a stimulating talk by author, Anthony Flint, on his new book, "Wrestling with Moses," which tells the story of Robert Moses and his derailed plans to put a highway through New York City's historic Greenwhich Village. The book's heroine is Jane Jacobs, the community activist and Village resident, who rallied neighbors to fight Moses. The Village and its residents won after their "wrestle" with the mighty city planner, but it was the people's will and it makes for a great story. The tale echos that of the Staten Island community's struggle with Robert Moses to spare the Greenbelt from a highway project that would have destroyed what is today's Greenbelt Park. Moses' Mountain, pictured about in Ray Ludacer's photo, is a man-made "mountain" in the Greenbelt made up some forty years ago of rubble cleared to begin construction of the highway that never became a reality. Space is limited for Mr. Flint's talk so call to reserve your place. Admission is $15.00 and includes refreshments: (718) 351-3450. This event kicks-off the Nature Center's fifth anniversary celebratory weekend.
